Did you apply for the DV-2020 between October 3, 2018 and November 6, 2018? If you did, now is the time to check, whether you have been selected to apply for a Diversity Visa, or lawful permanent resident status in the United States (what many people call green card). From May 7, 2019 you may check your entrant status at www.dvlottery.state.gov using your confirmation number you received upon applying.
You will not be notified via email about your status. Any email saying you have been selected is NOT valid. Please, note that the ONLY way to check your status is via the Entrant Status Check at www.dvlottery.state.gov.
The U.S. Embassy in Budapest cannot check your status for you or provide your confirmation number. Make sure you keep your confirmation number until September 30, 2020. Keep it safe and do not let anyone enter fake information for you. Any false information you enter will permanently disqualify you from the DV program.
Unfortunately, scammers are taking advantage of people who want to enter the lottery. Some scammers say you have won the lottery, even if you have never entered, and then ask for payment to process your application. All of these con artists will take your money, but you will get nothing in return. The scammers might even cost you the chance to get a green card legally. If you think someone is trying to scam you, report a fraud here.

The Next DV Program Application Period
Registration for the lottery is open once a year for about a month every fall. There’s only one way to enter the diversity visa lottery, and that’s online at www.dvlottery.state.gov . Please, check back for the DV-2021 application information in the fall of 2019.
