FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On October 20, U.S. Ambassador to Hungary David Pressman traveled to Békéscsaba in southeastern Hungary. The Ambassador paid tribute to the region’s gastronomical traditions and history during his visit to the 26th annual Csabai Sausage Festival, where he met members of the Csabai Sausage Club, The Association for the Youth of Békéscsaba, and many young people participating in the annual sausage-making competition. He sampled several different varieties of local sausage and donned an apron to learn the art of sausage-making from one of the young teams.
Speaking to local journalists, the Ambassador said: “Since I arrived in Hungary, I’ve been trying to get to as many places as possible. Wherever I go, I am impressed by the country’s diversity, creativity, and the sense of life of the given place, and this is no different in Békéscsaba.” Speaking to Békéscsaba Student Mayor János Hajdú, Ambassador Pressman noted that he has been impressed by the enthusiasm many young Hungarians show about preserving important local traditions.
He continued: “Hungarians are particularly proud of their rich history, traditions, and culture. One of the great advantages of being the Ambassador of the United States to Hungary – regardless of the political situation – is that I can meet Hungarians, gain insight into their customs, and taste their food. It’s easy to understand why they are so proud of their culture.”
In addition to Budapest, Ambassador Pressman has visited ten Hungarian counties and continues to engage with Hungarians from a wide range of backgrounds across the country.
