Ambassador Pressman Meets with Senior EU Officials in Brussels
U.S. Ambassador to Hungary David Pressman traveled to Brussels on May 25-26 to consult with senior European Union officials on shared priorities related to security and democratic values. He also met with U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Mark Gitenstein and U.S. Ambassador to NATO Julianne Smith to discuss a range of issues central to the transatlantic alliance.
Following his visit, Ambassador Pressman said: “The United States continues to work closely with our European partners on important issues related to the rule of law, countering corruption, and promoting transparency. We also remain united in supporting Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against Russia’s savage attacks on the Ukrainian people and their democratic values. We will never accept Russia’s brazen attempts to redraw borders by force by tearing up the rulebook that has made us more secure on both sides of the Atlantic.”
Related to the Hungarian government’s obstruction of European Union aid to Ukraine and the latest proposed package of sanctions against Russian and PRC entities, Ambassador Pressman said: “We find it difficult to see how blocking sanctions against Russian human rights offenders and PRC companies contributing to Russia’s war machine is in Hungary’s interest.”
