Gardener (December 21)


Basic Function of the Position – Landscaping and gardening duties of Government Owned properties.

The Gardener landscapes, plants and maintains grounds and gardens and prepares soil and plants, cultivates, fertilizes, applies pesticides and other chemicals, waters, pruning and transplants shrubs, trees, perennial and annual flowers, trims trees and mows lawn.
Other duties include: maintaining tools and work areas, moving selective and domestic waste from collection point to transportation point, recommending purchase of gardening materials and fulfil administrative duties.
The Gardener also performs life and safety work as needed such as snow clearing, utilities restoration, and fire and natural hazard response. S/he also escorts and supervises contractor’s workers for gardening related tasks. The Gardener also provides secondary support to other trades for multi-person requirements and performs other duties as assigned in support of US Mission goals.


EXPERIENCE:  Two years of experience as a gardener or similar work involving general landscaping and gardening duties is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:  Incumbent should have good working knowledge of gardening work, how to plant and care of plants, methods of landscaping and grounds keeping; proper use of chemicals, fertilizers and pesticides; use and care of motorized equipment and hand/power tools used in ground keeping maintenance work. A good knowledge of plants and seasonal flowers is required. Knowledge about the nature of soil and application of manure is required.

EDUCATION: Completion of Elementary School is required. Completion of vocational gardener school or vocational secondary gardener school is required.

LANGUAGE:  Level I (Rudimentary, speaking and reading) English is required. Level III (Good Working Knowledge, speaking and reading) Hungarian is required. Language knowledge may be tested.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Ability to perform physical work outdoors for long periods and ability to lift load about 15-25 kg is required. Ability to use hand/power tools and motorized equipment is essential. Local driver license B is required.
