
U.S. Embassy Budapest offers various program opportunities for high schools, universities, and other local audiences (student groups, NGOs, etc.) covering a wide range of topics including environmental issues, security cooperation, media literacy, diplomacy, international relations, and more. You can find further details on each activity below. All programs are free of charge. Please note that we only accept one application per school per semester.
Generate: The Game of Energy Choices

Developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), this game challenges students to explore energy choices and teaches the considerations and costs in deciding what type of energy generation to build. Students will work in teams to fill up their community’s energy grid and compete to come up with the cheapest and most sustainable solution.
Prior to the game, Embassy colleagues will provide a short EPA presentation about energy sources and pollution.

Diplomacy simulation games

Developed by the National Museum of American Diplomacy, these diplomatic simulation games immerse students in skill-building role-plays based on real-world scenarios. During a Diplomacy Simulation, students form teams and practice collaborating with people who have diverse values, interests, and perspectives to reach a mutually beneficial outcome. Harmony Square: a game about fake news

Developed by the State Department’s Global Engagement Center, Harmony Square challenges students to disturb the square’s peace and quiet by fomenting internal divisions and pitting its residents against each other over the course of 4 short levels. The goal of the game is to expose the tactics and manipulation techniques that are used to mislead people, build up a following, or exploit societal tensions for political purposes.
Before and after the game, Embassy colleagues will offer an introductory and debriefing session and will discuss the importance of recognizing fake news.

In this fun 20-minute game, students have to craft sensational headlines, memes, and manipulate media to shut down the development of a local park. The goal of the game is to help students develop their skills in critical thinking and recognize online manipulation techniques more effectively.

Civil Affairs Team (CAT)- Presentation on NATO

The United States Army employs military personnel to engage with locals to help them familiarize with military presence in a host country and to further discuss the importance of security alliances such as NATO. The CAT team talks about their duties and go deep into the history and milestones of NATO. At the end of the presentation students will have the opportunity to ask the CAT members about military or defense-related topics.
