Demonstration Alert – U. S. Embassy Budapest, Hungary

Event(s): On July 8th through the 12th there will be numerous planned demonstrations in Budapest.  Hungarian Police will be present at the event to monitor the security situation.

  1.  Place: Kossuth Lajos ter.

Date/Time:  Thursday, July 8, 10:00-11:30

Organizer:  Amnesty International

Purpose:  To demonstrate in opposition to the recently passed anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.

  1. Place: Szabadsag ter.

Date/Time:  Thursday, July 8, 6:00 pm -10:00 pm

Organizer:  Raul Wallenberg Association

Purpose:  Commemorate Holocaust victims

  1. Place: Szabadsag ter.

Date/Time:  Saturday, July 10, 4:30 pm -6:00 pm

Organizer:  Hungarian Guard Movement (successor of Hungarian Guard)

Purpose:  Remembrance of an unauthorized violent demonstration held by the Hungarian Guard where 216 members were detained by Police.

  1. Place: 13th district, Balzac utca 18-20.

Date/Time:  Monday, July 12, 6:00 pm -12:00 am

Organizer:  64 Counties

Purpose:  To demonstrate against LGBTQ+ pride month events

Actions to Take:

  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Exercise caution if in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
