Demonstration Alert – U. S. Embassy Budapest, Hungary

Event(s): On June 16-20 there will be numerous planned demonstrations in Budapest.  Hungarian Police will be present at the event to monitor the security situation.

 

  1. Place:  Sándor Palota

Date/Time:  Wednesday, June 16, 18:00-20:00

Organizer:  Multiple NGOs

Purpose:  To protest the newly passes legislation which restricts LGBTQ+ rights

 

  1. Place: Batthyány tér (gathering site) – march route: Fő utca – Ponty utca – Szalag utca – Hunyadi János – Halászbástya – Szentháromság tér – Tárnok utca – Dísz tér – Szent György utca – I., Szent György tér.

Date/Time:  Friday, June 18, 15:00-18:00

Organizer:  Three environmental protection groups

Purpose:  To protest the ongoing construction at Lake Fertő

 

  1. Place:  Kossuth Lajos tér

Date/Time:  Sunday, June 20, 13:00-21:00

Organizer:  Private citizen

Purpose:  To protest discriminatory vaccination cards, highlight the government’s failed handling of the pandemic, and to support human liberties

Actions to Take:

  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Exercise caution if in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
