Working Together!  Military cooperation is an important part of our bilateral relationship. On July 14, 2020, Deputy Chief of Mission Marc Dillard and Air Force Attaché Scott Shepard visited the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) at Hungarian Defense Forces Pápa Air Base to learn more about how they operate and deliver support.

Pápa Air Base is home to the Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW).  HAW operates three Boeing C-17 Globemaster III cargo jets, and responds to a wide array of airlift needs including national support to EU / NATO / UN operations or national military, peacekeeping and humanitarian relief operations wherever and whenever needed by the SAC member nations.  SAC member countries include: Hungary, Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovenia and the United States, Finland and Sweden.

SAC C-17s have flown over 27,000 hours on close to 2,500 missions, delivered 174 million lbs (79,000 tons) of cargo and carried more than 130,000 passengers.
